This website presents digital images of 840 visual materials from the collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society that illustrate the role of Massachusetts in the national debate over slavery. 包括照片, 绘画, 雕塑, 雕刻, 工件, 横幅, 和 broadsides that were central to the debate 和 the formation of the antislavery movement.

Images of the key players; broadsides 和 横幅 announcing antislavery meetings 和 fairs; 和 visual imagery of the movement as seen through patriotic covers, 政治漫画, 和 工件 showing the horrors of slavery are key to underst和ing how the movement was communicated 和 followed.

Patriotic covers (envelopes featuring images 和 slogans) were a format employed by both Unionists 和 Confederates to promote their causes during the Civil War.
